How We Support Learners at Byron College
At Byron College, our approach to supporting learners is guided by our CARE values and our belief that every child can make progress when they feel safe, respected, and excited by learning.
CARE in Action
Community: We build strong relationships so students feel they belong and are understood.
Action: We encourage agency, resilience, and confidence in learning and personal growth.
Respect: We value individuality, cultural diversity, and ethical behaviour.
Excellence: We challenge students to think deeply, embrace difficulty, and strive to go beyond expectations.
High-Quality Classroom Teaching
Most students’ needs are met through:
adaptive teaching strategies,
clear routines and expectations,
regular feedback and reflection.
Additional and Targeted Support
Some students may benefit from additional support, including:
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision.
English as an Additional Language (EAL) support.
support for social, emotional, or behavioural needs.
extension and challenge for More Able and Ambitious learners.
Support is planned collaboratively, reviewed regularly, and discussed openly with parents.
Working in Partnership
We believe inclusion works best when school and home work together. Parents are involved in decision-making, reviews, and planning for next steps. Where appropriate, the school may suggest external professionals, while recognising that parents are free to choose specialists of their own preference.
Assessment and Access Arrangements
Byron College promotes an inclusive approach to assessment, ensuring that students can demonstrate what they know and can do. Access arrangements reflect a student’s normal way of working and comply with examination board regulations.
Our aim is for every student to feel confident, capable, and supported to succeed — academically and personally.
