University of Cambridge Presentation
Tuesday 27th May & Thursday 12th June 2014
It was a pleasure for me to have been given the chance to talk to a good number of our sixth-formers about the University of Cambridge and what it would be like to study and live in this historic and world-class institution. Having thoroughly enjoyed my time reading English and Modern and Medieval Languages at St John's College, Cambridge – to which I plan to return for a Master's in Gender Studies later this year – I wanted to give our sixth form an idea about what university life is like and the kind of intellectual opportunities that exist not only at Cambridge but at dozens of other excellent universities as well. Above all, I hope I succeeded in debunking certain pernicious 'myths' about Cambridge and other universities like it: any student who is determined and passionate enough about the subject they want to study should not hold themselves back but, on the contrary, apply. You have nothing to lose!
Many thanks to all those sixth-formers who took time out of their revision to come to the presentation, and who made such an attentive, engaged, and respectful audience. For those who couldn't make it but would like to attend, as well as for Year 11, I will be delivering the same presentation during Periods 4 and 5 on Thursday 12th June, in the Hall.
I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible!
