Senior School » ICT
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) influences the life of everyone, and almost every aspect of our daily lives involves using computers. In the increasingly dynamic world of study and work, pupils will need to be able to work effectively with IT irrespective of what they choose for their further study. ICT is taught throughout the senior school with an aim for pupils to: - develop an appreciation of the range and power of computer applications
- foster an interest and confidence in the use of computing
- develop abilities to solve problems using computer techniques
- develop an awareness of the social effects of ICT as well as the connection between computers and law
- foster a desire to use computers within other interests and subjects
- learn how to use a variety of software (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, designing, web publishing, multimedia and so on).
Furthermore, pupils have the opportunity to certify their skills by obtaining the Cambridge International Diploma in IT Skills. The Award consists of 5 Application Modules: - Using the Computer and Managing Files
- Word Processing
- Sreadsheets
- Electronic Communication
- Databases or Presentations (optional modules)
By the time pupils have reached Grade 10 they will have completed all five tests, receiving the full Cambridge International Diploma in IT Skills certificate. In Grade 10 pupils may also choose to take ICT at GCSE level as a two-year course (with examination in Grade 11).
