Senior School » Mathematics
We teach mathematics which goes beyond the minimum requirements laid down by the National Curriculum. The course is designed in such a way that every pupil acquires a good working knowledge of mathematical techniques.
Classroom teaching is differentiated to meet the needs of all pupils.
Mathematics tutorial sessions ('Mathematics Clinic') are held for all Grade 9 pupils.
The pupils are given additional assistance with any problems they encounter with mathematics.
Pupils experiencing difficulty in mathematics are given additional practice work while advanced pupils are challenged with more demanding work.
This prepares pupils for the IGCSE Cambridge International Examination Course, which takes place over two years.
The course is differentiated and is taught at two levels.
Mathematics CORE - for pupils that need a basic menu of essential mathematical skills for any field of further study.
Mathematics EXTENDED - for pupils that need to continue with mathematics at an Advanced level, which will lead to University Courses in Engineering, Bioscience and other branches of further study.
The Advanced and Advanced Level Subsidiary courses have devoted mathematicians who study mathematics in the following way: - Pure Mathematics as Core components with applications modules in mechanics and statistics which cater for students moving into Business fields, Engineering / Science fields, Medical and Bioscience fields and Social / Environmental Science fields.
Mathematics is taught in such a way its applications to the various fields of endeavour are highlighted. Hence an introduction to Mathematical Modelling precedes all application modules in Statistics and Mechanics.
