Extra curricular Activities

Extra-curricular Activities

The following extra-curricular activities are available to pupils in Junior and/or Senior School.

Mini Tennis

Mini Tennis is offered to pupils from Nursery to Grade 6 during two school lunch breaks. Scaled down racquets are used and pupils learn the technical skills of forehand and backhand drives as well as serving. This activity encourages a team spirit, whilst improving gross motor skills. In the spring term a series of tournaments take place culminating in an inter-schools tournament, usually in May, held at the Olympic Stadium.

Tennis

Tennis lessons are offered once a week as an after school activity to pupils in Grades 5-11. Not only do pupils consolidate existing skills, but also develop their own style. As with Mini Tennis, interschool tournaments are organized at the end of the academic year.

Riding

Riding as an extracurricular activity has proved extremely popular and will definitely be continued in the forthcoming year. Some children were a little alarmed when tehy saw the size of the horses, but the view from the saddle was panoramic indeed! Thus, in the space of five lessons, most pupils learnt to do a rising trot, and two even cantered!

Math’s club

An after school Math’s club is in operation three days per week. In general terms these clubs are divided into Grades 7-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Their purpose is to consolidate existing knowledge, extend pupils who show a natural aptitude for the subject and support those who are experiencing difficulty. These groups are based on an eight week cycle and are of mixed ability. Plenty of individual help is thus available ensuring sound exam results.

Guitar Club

The guitar club started as a pilot scheme last year and has enjoyed great success. This year an additional group has been added to accommodate those who wish to start this hobby whilst the second group is now mastering musical notation as well as harmony.

Soccer Academy

The school soccer academy operates every Saturday for a two hour period and is open to pupils from Grade 3-7. This is an enjoyable way for pupils to improve their technical skills, often to a degree where they can be considered for teams which represent the school and academy. In addition, pupils learn valuable skills regarding the importance of teamwork and commitment.

Volley and Basketball Practices

Volley and Basketball practices are held twice a week and are available to senior school pupils from Grades 8-13.The object of these is to prepare pupils to take part in interschool competitions as well as hone the skills in Grade 11, which they require for their I.G.C.S.E. examinations.

French Club

An after school French club is open to all pupils from grade 7 to 9.

It runs on a Monday from 3.30 to 5.00.

Chess Club

A junior school Chess club operates during the lunch break and now boasts twenty participants. The rules of the game are taught and ability matched pupils play against one another in a spirit of friendly rivalry.

Homework Club

Homework club is available from Monday to Friday for pupils from Grades 3-8. This activity is supervised by qualified staff and is an opportunity for pupils to complete their homework before returning home, thus freeing up their evenings. In addition, should any pupil have difficulties in any subject, one to one help is available to sort out the problem.
